The social project "100 more smiles" has been visiting seniors living in poverty for 15 years, giving them their attention and gifts. Last year alone, the participants of the act of kindness fulfilled the dreams of 178 seniors and raised 21,300 euros, which turned into gifts for all the seniors they visited.
"The Christmas period is the most awaited and pleasant time of the holidays. We try to spend as much time as possible with our loved ones, we even come back from the farthest corners of the world to gather with our loved ones around the Christmas table and surprise each other with gifts. Unfortunately, not all seniors have the gift to welcome Christmas in this way, so the "100 Smiles More" team tries to make seniors happy every year with gifts and the fulfillment of their dreams," says Rotaract representative Benas Žukauskas.
This year, the "100 more smiles" campaign will reach even more seniors. Rugilė Bitautaitė, the head of the "Senior" program who joined the kindness campaign, says that this year not only seniors living in the vicinity of Vilnius will be visited, but also those living in Marijampolė, Lazdijai, Telšiai, Panevėžys, Kaunas and Klaipėda, as well as city districts will not be forgotten.
"Wool socks, a warm blanket or a magazine - all these gifts for lonely and poor seniors really brighten up their everyday life. And some of them have extremely beautiful dreams like publishing a book of poetry. They are very happy with all the gifts, but the most important thing for them is a lively conversation, an opportunity to be heard. When visiting seniors, they are happy to share their memories and do not spare life advice. These talks are a mutual gift not only for the seniors, but also for the participants of the kindness campaign who visit them," says R. Bitautaitė.
